Ragga Dee Takes Legal Action Against Mikie Wine Over Song Copyright Dispute

A brewing legal battle is capturing the attention of Uganda’s music industry as veteran artist Ragga Dee has taken fellow musician Mikie Wine to court over allegations of copyright infringement. The dispute centers on Mikie Wine’s recent remix of Ragga Dee’s iconic 2004 hit, Nkugguddemu Oyagala Cash.

According to reports, Ragga Dee, whose real name is Daniel Kazibwe, through his lawyers at MDG Law Advocates, claims that Mikie Wine unlawfully reproduced and released a version of the song, only adding the word “Zuena” without obtaining permission or giving proper credit. The original track has been exclusively owned and performed by Ragga Dee for over two decades, establishing his rights under Uganda’s Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Act.

The legal notice demands compensation of UGX 300 million within seven days, warning that failure to comply will result in formal court proceedings. As of now, Mikie Wine has not publicly responded to the allegations.

This case highlights the growing challenges around intellectual property rights in Uganda’s vibrant music scene, underscoring the need for clear agreements and respect for original creators. It also raises awareness about artists’ rights in an age where digital sharing and remixes have become commonplace.

Fans and industry watchers are keenly awaiting further developments as this legal drama unfolds, signaling an important moment for the enforcement of copyright laws in East Africa.
